At Raploch Primary we have high expectations of all our pupils and believe it is never too early to start thinking about careers.
Careers Experience 2014
This year our Careers Experience was held over a week and pupils were given the opportunitiy to visit various places of work such as Stirling Fire Station, Dobbie’s, Stirling Sherriff Court, Forth Valley College, Frankie and Bennies and Sainsbury’s. Blairdruumond Safari Park and the SSPCA also provided us with information about jobs in animal welfare.
Pupils had the opportunity to experience and develop skills in the work place – take a look at our learning.
These are some snapshots from around our Campus. We were surprised to see how much work goes on behind the scenes!
It was very interesting seeing inside the Sherriff Court. We got to sit in the judge’s chair….
Careers Experience 2013
We had a great time at Dobbie’s and found out about all the different jobs within the store.
We firstly heard about how the displays are put together and about the great effort that goes into attractively presenting all the items for sale. We loved the Christmas displays.
It takes a lot of time and hard work to look after over 1 million pounds worth of plants.
We all loved looking at the fish, reptiles and the cute bunnies!
Our trip to Forth Valley college was very interesting. We visited the kitchens – this made us all very hungry – especially Gary! We saw the biscuits for our snack being made. They were very tasty.
We visited the Creative Art department and watched the students use different printing techniques. This looked like great fun.
The sound recording studio was fantastic. We listened to a band and heard how the sound can be changed through the use of the computers and lots of buttons. We asked to hear what the music would sound like if the voice was changed to that of an alien – it was weird!
The Stone Mason’s workshops were very cold. You have to practise using a chisel and have lots of patience to make a carving like the one Owen is standing beside.
The large hoses from the ceiling are to take away the dust that is made when the stone is chiseled. It would not be healthy to breathe this in.
Some of the children visited the Forth Valley College in Raploch Campus to find out about becoming a Beautician. They returned looking very glamorous!
We had a great time at Frankie and Benny’s. We made our very own pizzas, watched them being cooked and best of all got to eat them! They were delicious!
We looked like real chefs in our hats and aprons.
We found out all about the jobs that bar staff do, including having to know the ingredients of all the cocktails!
